Supporting the whole person
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects communication, social interaction, and patterns of behavior and interests. Many autistic children, teens, and adults also experience co-occurring psychiatric conditions that can make daily life harder — and those conditions are treatable.
Concerns we commonly help with
- Anxiety, including social and separation anxiety
- ADHD symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity
- Irritability, aggression, or frequent meltdowns
- Depression and mood changes
- Obsessive-compulsive symptoms
- Sleep difficulties
- Challenges during transitions, such as adolescence or the move to adulthood
Our approach
We take time to understand each person's communication style, sensory needs, strengths, and routines. Parents and caregivers are key partners in evaluation and treatment. Treatment may include medication management when appropriate, psychoeducation, and coordination with the patient's therapists — such as ABA, speech, or occupational therapy providers — as well as pediatricians and schools, with consent.
About autism diagnostic testing
Our focus is psychiatric care for co-occurring conditions. If a formal autism diagnostic evaluation or psychological testing is needed, we can help guide families to appropriate resources in Montgomery County and throughout Maryland.

We care for children, adolescents, and adults. Care is provided by Vivienne Gomes, M.D., Adult, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, and Emmanuel Sango, DNP, APRN, CRNP, PMHNP-BC, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
